(median time: )
I started keeping track of the time I spent on personal projects a few years back while reading Deep Work by Cal Newport. He recommends that readers keep track of the hours they spend working deeply on projects as a way to increase their total productivity. While I obviously don’t have any data on my pre-collection productivity, keeping track has been a big motivator to get me to start working. I find that once I’m at my keyboard trying to make progress I don’t want to stop, but increasing that count is a great way to get me to take the first step.
For more information about this project, please have a look at my blog; I plan to write a more detailed post about both the process of making this chart, and what I learned along the way.
Finally, I would like to say thanks to Amelia Wattenberger for her book Fullstack D3 and Data Visualization.
